Cork is one of the original 100% natural products that is green star compliant.
Cork originates from the cork tree. Located in Portugal the cork tree is stripped of it's outer bark, which is in fact the cork.
This process doesn't hurt the tree, it is regarded as essential for the physiological recovery and growth of the tree.
At 25 years of age it is then stripped for the first time from it's cork. This first extraction is known as the virgin cork.
The tree then regenerates. The new layers are known as reproduction cork, these reproduction layers are then stripped at regular intervals every 9 years, while the tree grows on for centuries.
Comcork
Comcork is produced by recycled and disregarded cork from wine bottles. Comcork flooring is used in boats for it's high quality slip resistance. We are currently installing it in a PCYC for sound proofing. It's many other qualities are impact absorbtion, underfoot comfort and it's acoustic and thermal insulation properties. |
